About My Brand
I am often asked how I got into tattooing, a question that makes me reflect on the past four decades of rich and diverse interests, occupations, and experiences that have ultimately led me here. My passion for creative self expression has drawn me into various artistic directions, including sculpture, drawing, music, modelling, makeup, poetry, dancing, and others. I bring a solid background in photography, graphic design, and customer service.
I started my love for photography at G.C.V.I. high school in 1996. I’ve shot everything from punk shows, underground hip hop shows, portraits, weddings, boudoir, landscapes, award ceremony, family, party, pet portraits, commercial, product shoots, etc. I worked at a local camera shop for over 11 years. There I was able to make connections with hundreds of clients, sold cameras, developed and printed 35 mm film including slides and ultimately became the digital department, where I digitized photos, and all negative formats. I did digital photo restoration as well as graphic design. I helped organize life times of photos for end of life celebrations, weddings, birthday’s etc.
I left that job, bought a motorcycle, and pursued a career with a Canada’s longest running adult shop. I started as seasonal part time but quickly worked to become store Manager, a position I held for over 5 years. I adored my customer interactions and staff. I helped hundreds of people feel supported as they learned about themselves and brought gender affirming items to our shop. I left that position to spend more time with my child.
I started my tattoo collection over 20 years ago after meeting Heather, the owner of Inksmith Tattoos while working at the camera shop. I started working for her in 2017 as counter girl. Helping greet clients and calm their nerves, book tattoo and piercing clients, assisting the artists as needed, cleaning, and answering phone inquiries.
I did my first tattoo in 2018 and fell in love. It was a cute sheet ghost I named Ghost Malone on a good friend and fellow tattoo artist Lydia Deetz, who I met during my time Managing the retail shop. With their encouragement, I worked on my drawing and design techniques and landed my apprenticeship under Hailey Amethyst in 2020 but was halted due to the Covid 19 lock down. I started tattooing as an apprentice in the summer of 2021, once we were finally able to reopen.
I’m a huge believer in hard work and growth as work though the hard stuff life throws at us. Life can be gorgeous and tough, I practice honouring the many facets and don’t shy away from hard discussions or feelings. I have lived many lives and experienced many things since 1982. I joke I’m 275 years old in experience points or a level 70 wizard. Tattooing allows me to engage on a personal level with my clients while I further develop the skill set acquired along the way. I’m enthusiastic and grateful for this career and feel I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing. It has all lead me here.
