Tattoo Preparation
Preparing for a tattoo involves several important steps to ensure the best possible experience and outcome. Here are key recommendations:
1. Research Your Design
Spend time deciding on the design you want. Consider styles, sizes, and placements. Research artists whose work aligns with your vision. Never settle until it’s 100% right.
2. Choose the Right Tattoo Artist
Look for reputable tattoo artists with experience in your desired style. Review their portfolios and read client testimonials. Trust your gut and check the vibes! Having a good rapport with your artist is one of the most important parts of the process. Go where you feel best.
3. Schedule a Consultation
Arrange a meeting with your chosen artist to discuss your design, placement, and any concerns. This helps establish a rapport and ensures alignment on your vision. This way you can check out the space you’ll be working in and make sure you’re comfortable. If not, move on to the next person. It’s your tattoo and only you can decide what feels like the best fit.
4. Prepare Your Body
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Avoid alcohol and too much caffeine, as these can thin your blood and increase sensitivity. Exfoliating your skin a few days prior to your appointment is also beneficial. Your nerves may get worked up, but trust the process. Getting nervous, scared, excited, apprehensive, or anxious is totally normal. We work together to reassure you and do whatever you need. I work with neuro spicy individuals and am more than happy to discuss and create a game plan.
5. Get a Good Night's Sleep
Rest well the night before your appointment. Being well-rested can help you endure the tattooing process more comfortably. You may even have a little nap while I tattoo you! We get cozy.
6. Dress Appropriately
Wear loose-fitting clothing that provides easy access to the area being tattooed. This will help you feel more comfortable during the session. If we are tattooing an extra sensitive area, feel free to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable in every way. Let me know if you are anxious about clothing or what not to wear before your appointment. We’ll figure it out.
7. Eat Before Your Appointment
Have a nutritious meal prior to your session to maintain your energy levels and combat any potential lightheadedness. Bring snacks too if you want! You will most likely be hungry and sleepy after your appointment. Getting tattooed can take a lot out of you and your blood sugar.
8. Bring Support
If you feel anxious, consider bringing a friend for moral support. Having someone you trust nearby can make the experience more enjoyable. I am more than happy to be that person for you, but know you may bring a supportive and considerate friend.
9. Prepare for Aftercare
Familiarize yourself with proper aftercare procedures. Purchase any necessary supplies like ointment or clothing ahead of time to ensure optimal healing.
10. Trust Your Gut
If you have any doubts or feel uncomfortable, discuss them with your artist. It's essential to feel confident about your decision before proceeding. If it doesn’t feel 100%, reschedule. That tattoo will happen when it is meant to.
Following these steps will help you prepare effectively for your tattoo, ensuring a smooth and positive experience.

Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks. After it has healed, use a high SPF sunscreen to protect it from UV rays.
Activities to Avoid
Soaking
Avoid soaking the tattoo in pools, hot tubs, or bathtubs for at least 2 weeks. Short showers are acceptable, but don’t let direct water pressure hit the tattoo as it will be tender.Excessive Sweat
Limit activities that cause excessive sweating (like intense workouts) for the first week to prevent irritation and prolonged healing.Tight Clothing
Avoid wearing tight clothing over the tattoo for the first couple of weeks. Loose clothing allows the area to breathe and prevents friction.
Signs of Complications
Monitor your tattoo for any signs of infection, such as:
Increased redness or swelling
Pus or unusual discharge
Persistent throbbing or pain
If you experience any of these symptoms, you can use green Polysporin for a couple of days. Please contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional.
Long-Term Care
Once healed, continue to protect your tattoo with sunscreen to ensure its longevity and vibrancy. Regular moisturising will also help maintain the skin’s health around your tattoo.
